I began photographing athletic events for the fun of it
in my retirement from business in 1997 and soon began to believe I had
a knack for it. I was getting favorable responses from coaches and parents
and from the photography editor of a local newspaper.
My dad had been a coach and teacher. I grew up on athletic
fields and have been involved with sports all my life. It is in my blood.
I live in an area with several colleges, private schools, high schools,
horse farms, etc., with athletic activities galore. It has been a wonderful
confluence of events, having time and opportunities on my side.
In the summer of 2001 a fly fishing picture, “Mountain
Laurel Fishing,” won second place in an art show, The Great
River, Images of the Connecticut River Valley, in Greefield, Massachusetts.
I was amazed. This was a show of fifty-two pieces of several types of
art: oil paintings, watercolors, scuplture.
